Curated by Pendar Nabipour
Fravahr Gallery November 2011
Following an invitation by Amir Mobed to co-curate an exhibition for Fravahr Gallery, with a focus of showing a general image of the whole contemporary sculpting scene in Iran, throughout three different generations of sculptors, I joined the project. However, later on, Amir had to leave the project.
“In the selection ahead the purpose was to collect a number of artworks symbolizing a part of a procedure in which the art of sculpting of Iran’s today society is stepping through, and it forms itself in a rather indefinite speed. A procedure which has reached to its current form carrying efforts of ringmasters, concomitance of the masters and forerunning of youth. These artworks show three views from three groups. One tries to merge its ripe achievement of modern art into the Art of the day, another thinks of improvement relying on its discoveries, and the other one hastens forward using the tool of creativity and a perception of today’s situation. Each of these groups tries to illustrate its own concerns and anxieties, based on its own knowledge, in the contemporary era and mostly and especially the era of today’s art. Today which is tomorrow for yesterday, and yesterday for tomorrow.”
